Harry Hurley of Hurley in the Morning is reporting that Atlantic City Councilman Marty Small has been acquitted of all charges in the massive voter fraud trial stemming from the 2009 Democratic Mayoral primary.
Small was charged late last year alongside LuQuay Zahir, Toni Dixon, Tracy Pijuan, Floyd Tally and Thomas Quirk for allegedly mishandling ballots and violating election laws during the primary that pitted Small against Lorenzo Langford. Langford won the primary and was later elected mayor of Atlantic City.
The attorney general’s office issued this statement later:
“We are disappointed but must respect the verdict of the jury,” said AG Paula Dow in a statement. “The prosecutors, detectives and other personnel assigned to this case gave it their all in the interest of safeguarding fair elections and the fundamental right of citizens to vote. I commend them for the skill and dedication with which they conducted this trial and the underlying investigation.”
