Senate President Steve Sweeney Friday launched a web site to help clarify his positions on pension and benefit reform.
The site, www.njbenefitreform.com compares the plans Democrats have put forward against proposals from the governor.
“Public employees are being bombarded with conflicting and oftentimes flat-out wrong information about the pension and health benefit reform proposals that have been introduced,” said Sweeney, (D-3), of West Deptford. “This site cuts through the static and myths to provide a simple, nonpolitical side-by-side comparison. I am confident that when provided with the facts, rank-and-file public employees will come to realize that reform is essential to ensuring they actually can rely on the benefits they have been promised and deserve.”
Sweeney has introduced pension reform that would create a system more in line with the private sector. His health benefit reform would require employees to pay a much larger portion of their benefits, while basing contributions on a percentage of the overall premium instead of on the employee’s salary.
