TRENTON – Sen. Shirley Turner, (D-15), of Trenton, attended the Joint Schools Committee hearing Wednesday, hoping the committee becomes convinced the city school district could use some help from state government to improve its deteriorating buildings, namely Trenton Central High School.
“We wanted you to see today,” Turner told the committee. “We don’t have anywhere near the resources for our needs. If we don’t have the wherewithal, we should be doing everything in our power to make Trenton a safe and healthy place to learn.”
Legislators, among others, toured the high school to see its needs. SDA head Marc Larkins was scheduled to appear before the joint committee as well.
More than 50 people are in attendance at the meeting.
