TRENTON – Democrat Ellen Steinberg, an attorney from Millburn, who ran against the Kean District 21 ticket in 2003, is running as an independent Dem against Assemblyman John McKeon of West Orange and Assemblywoman Mila Jasey of South Orange in the 27th District.
“I am running because I believe we need Democrats who can stand up to the governor for the things we value – quality public education, jobs, women’s health, choice, and the welfare of our seniors,” said Steinberg in a prepared statement. “We need to support our teachers and not allow them to be made into scapegoats. We need to stop increasing the property tax burden on the middle class.”
Steinberg said she made her decision following the redistricting process.
“I looked at the district and thought about it for a number of days,” she said. “It’s six towns in Morris County plus the eight in Essex.”
