DOT commissioner welcomes towns applying for transportation-oriented funding

TRENTON – While the state Department of Transportation won’t allocate funds for “Transit Villages,” transportation commissioner Jim Simpson said Wednesday that municipalities are still welcome to apply for funding for various transportation-oriented development projects.

The money would come from the Municipal Aid Program.

Simpson told the Senate Budget Committee that he supports such projects, saying “we’re not anti-growth, transit-oriented development.”
