The five Republican members of the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee on Monday called immediate hearings to consider recommendations of the Task Force on Higher Educdation.
The task force was created by Gov. Chris Christie, and in its report issued in January recommends, among other things, combining Rutgers University and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and proposing more freedom for colleges and universities as they try to control costs and tuition.
The GOP senators said in a joint statement that the Senate would benefit from hearings that included testimony from the task force chairman, former Gov. Thomas Kean.
The senators include Joseph Pennacchio, (R-26), Pine Brook; Steve Oroho, (R-24), Sparta; Kevin O’Toole, (R-40), Wayne; Michael Doherty, (R-23), Washington Township; and Anthony Bucco, (R-25), Denville.
