Mercer County Democrats have successfully challenged at least 23 signatures on the petition filed by 15th District Democratic Assembly candidate Dan Toto.
According to sources, Toto is now short at least seven signatures from the required 100 to get on the ballot for the June primary. A formal decision is due this afternoon. Toto had filed to challenge Democrats Reed Gusciora and Bonnie Watson Coleman.
In a statement, Toto said he would continue to run for the state legislature.
“I am still certified, I still will run, and I have every intention of being elected as Assemblyman for the 15th Legislative District,” he said. “As we await a ruling by Judge James-Beavers, we believe 23 of the 115 signatures we submitted could be disqualified. However, even if that is the case, the law (NJSA 19:13-13) allows us time to cure the petition and I have every confidence that any discrepancies will be rectified and I can once again focus on planning a future for the good people of this district, while leaving behind the backroom politics of Liz Muoio and the Democratic establishment, who are making every attempt to keep me off the ballot.”
