Assembly Speaker Sheila Y. Oliver, (D-34), East Orange, and Assembly Majority Leader Joseph Cryan, (D-20), Union, on Friday criticized the neo-Nazi rally scheduled for Saturday in Trenton.
“Free speech rights may give people the right to spout ignorance, but that doesn’t mean we have to listen to it,” Oliver said in a release. “New Jerseyans of good will should spend their Saturday – and each and every day for that matter – embracing our great diversity. The strong bond between us, and that has helped make this a great state, cannot be broken by horrible hate speech.”
And Cryan added: “It’s a sad shame that a few people would spend their time spewing hateful thinking that generations of Americans have fought and sacrificed their lives to defeat, but their ignorance will win over no one. Ignorance always loses.”
Republican lawmakers on Thursday also issued statements against the rally.
