Kyrillos honored with national award

National nonprofit employment and home development organization Community Options will honor state Sen. Joe Kyrillos (R-13) on Friday with a national award at Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton.

Each year, the organization gives out the Betty Pendler Award, named for the advocate for people with disabilities. This year, and at their annual spring event at Grounds For Sculpture,
Community Options will honor Kyrillos with the award.

Insiders say Kyrillos is a possible 2012 U.S. Senate challenger to U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ).

In addition to being a close ally of Gov. Chris Christie’s, he has the advantage of no bruising re-election contest this year.

Kyrillos enjoyed Republican redistricting pick ups that make his district more Republican than it was prior to the redistricting process. Moreover, Democrats didn’t field a candidate on the ballot this year, a move that enables the GOP state senator to focus on statewide fundraising as opposed to the distraction of a district race.
