A new poll out last night from Marist shows what all of the polls have shown this year: Gov. Andrew Cuomo remains very very popular with New York voters.
Nearly two thirds of registered voters — 64% — say that Cuomo is fulfilling the promises he made on the campaign trail last year, and 54% approve of the job he is doing.
“Governor Cuomo is off to a strong start,” said Marist pollster Lee Miringoff. ”He’s sticking to the political adage, ‘Say you are going to do it, do it, and say you’ve done it.’”
According to Miringoff, the numbers are historic highs for governor’s at this point in their tenure. After five months on the job, he said. Gov. Cuomo’s father, Mario Cuomo had a 50 % percent approval, Eliot Spitzer was at 42%, George Pataki 36% and David Paterson 35%
Miringoff pointed out however that what makes Andrew Cuomo unique is that his high numbers are shared across the political spectrum. Indeed, Republicans are giving him higher marks than Democrats. According to the latest numbers, 62% of G.O.Pers approve of the job he is doing while 56% of Democrats do.
