A spokesman for Senator Charles Schumer–who had been pushing for Ray Kelly to become the next director of the FBI–sent along this quote from the senator, in support of President Obama’s request that Congress extend the term of the current director, Robert Mueller.
“Mueller is great and if he can be convinced to stay, that provides good continuity for the FBI. But whenever Mueller’s service concludes, I still think Ray Kelly is a great fit.”
Schumer joins Republican Congressman Peter King as Kelly supporters who back the president’s push to extend Mueller’s 10-year term by another two years. King said the request was likely to be approved by Congress.
