Alan Meckler was the man behind Internet.com, an old school New York techie who made the Silicon Alley Reporter’s Power 100 just before the dot-com bubble burst.
He now runs WebMediaBrands, a conglomerate of sites like Media Bistro and All Facebook. Today Meckler bought Inside Media, which published Inside Facebook, Inside Mobile Apps and Inside Social Games, for $14 million in cash and stock.
As Om Malik points out, these are smart, niche, B2B buys. There is no mention on Inside Facebook of today’s huge scandal about a failed smear campaign against Google. The general public may not flock to these sites the way they do to Gizmodo or TechCrunch, but the deep data dive provided by Inside Media is vital to companies building on top of these new, rapidly changing platforms.
