Independent Democrat Diane Savino floated an interesting political move for Republicans who are facing a threat from the Conservative Party, if they vote to legalize same-sex marriage.

Eliminate fusion voting, she told me.

“At the end of the day, Mike Long [Conservative Party chairman] has to roll the dice and live up to his threat or he’ll back down and explain to his members and overlook this vote,” she said, referring to Long’s threat of denying his party’s line to any Republican who supports the bill.

“The legislature could threaten to eliminate fusion voting,” she said. “It all depends how much hardball people want to play with each other.”
