O’Scanlon: to be consistent, Dems should vote against their budget

TRENTON – Assemblyman Declan O’Scanlon (R-12), of Little Silver, the Republicans’ budget officer, said every Democrat who stood in opposition to the pension and health benefits reforms that passed last week on grounds that he or she didn’t have time to read it, should – in the name of consistency – oppose the Democratic budget.

“I got a copy of the budget document an hour and a half ago,” said O’Scanlon as he waited for the start of the Assembly Budget Committee.

“Every single Democrat has to vote against this budget,” he added, referring to the time plea copped by his opponents on health benefits and pension reform.

O’Scanlon said the Democrats’ budget spends every dollar plus 30%.

“The governor has telegraphed very clearly that we are trying to do budgets based on reality not pandering to liberal constituents,” said the assemblyman.
