The Senate Democrats just held a press conference with Gov. Andrew Cuomo to announce that 29 members of their conference–all but Rev. Ruben Diaz–were backing marriage equality.
“This is a moment in history we can all be proud of,” said Senate Minority Leader John Sampson. “I hope our Republican colleagues will join us on the right side of history and give the votes needed to finally pass marriage equality into law.”
The Democrats gathered as the last three conference hold-outs–Shirley Huntley, Joe Addabo and Carl Kruger–announced that they were on board. They were joined by Jim Alesi, the first Republican to break with his caucus and announce his support for the bill.
