‘Sexting’ bill passes committee; advertising on emergency vehicles bill held

The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee cleared several bills today before taking up budget-related items later in the day.

A bill that provides a counseling program for certain juveniles charged with what has become known as “sexting,’’ sending sexually suggestive material via cell phones, S2700/A1561, was approved by the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee today 13-0.

Sponsor Sen. James Beach called this a common sense approach and alternative for certain juveniles eligible for this kind of remedial, educational approach.

Advertising on emergency vehicles A bill that would allow the Transportation Department to sell advertising on emergency-services and related vehicles, S2787/A3944, was held.

The bill would clarify that the Transportation Commissioner has the powers to pursue revenue-generating sponsors for such vehicles or equipment.
