Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer declined to wade into the controversy over Congressman Anthony Weiner’s Twitter photo this afternoon.
“I’m not going to comment on his situation at this time,” Stringer told me after a press conference on increasing the punishment for repeat domestic violence offenders.
Stringer said the controversy won’t affect how he approaches 2013, even as pundits speculate about the potential effects on the next mayor’s race.
“My strategy hasn’t changed,” he said. “I’m meeting with people around the city. I’m focused on the future of New York in the post-Bloomberg era. And I expect this to be a very competitive race, no matter who ends up running. So I’m not focused on the others. I’m focused on what I have to do.”
