The Human Rights Campaign released a video featuring a Long Island fireman expressing his support for marriage.
And at 1:30 this afternoon, same-sex marriage advocates will rally outside of Borough Hall in Queens, the borough where two Democratic State Senators — Joe Addabbo Jr. and Shirley Huntley — voted against the bill in the past and have remained uncommitted so far.
Subtlety underscoring that the bill would not force religious institutions to recognize these marriages, the fireman in the ad says that gay and lesbian couples “should be able to go to city hall and get a marriage license. Nothing more, nothing less.” [Video after the jump]
Long Island is home to a number of Republican State Senators, including Senate Leader Dean Skelos, who have not vocalized support for the issue.
Last week, advocates released a state-wide television ad featuring a straight couple from Nassau County — where Skelos lives — saying they want to see their gay son get married in New York.
