To put it in perspective, Congresswoman Nan Hayworth, who, like Grimm is a freshman swept into office in a swing district, announced last week that she brought in $381,024 over a similar period, a figure high enough that it was credited with convincing former Congressman John Hall to take a pass on a run.

Grimm now has over $400,000 on hand, even if he doesn’t yet have an opponent. Former Congressman Mike McMahon, whom Grimm defeated in 2010, has been encouraged to try for a re-match, and investment banker Robert Diamond is also said to be considering a run. Neither have begun fundraising.

Among some of the high-profile names that have given to Grimm include PR maven Ronn Torossian, supermarket mogul John Catsimatidis and GOP Staten Island chairman Robert Scamardella.
