According to the New York Post, the “genius who dreamed up the iconic New York Post headline” is leaving the paper.
Vincent A. Musetto is best known for the 1983 headline “Headless Body in Topless Bar,” although he told his colleagues at his good-bye party that personal favorite was “Granny Executed in Her Pink Pajamas.” Mr. Musetto had been at the Post for 40 years. Since running the newsroom in the 1980’s, Mr. Musetto has worked at the tabloid as a film critic. The departing writer notes that he has been at the Post since it was a left-wing daily. Seems like just yesterday….
Although calling your own writer a “genius” and his work “iconic” may be a bit much, we’ll forgive the Post this time. The headline was pretty good.
[Correction: Vincent A. Musetto emails to say that although he is leaving The New York Post, “retirement might be too strong of a word” as he will continue to write movie reviews. We corrected, and regret, the error]
