Lead control program override fails

TRENTON – The Senate bid to override the veto of $2 million for a lead hazard control program fell 24-13.

Sen. Ronald Rice of Newark said the elimination of this fund “doesn’t make any sense’’ and termed it of particular interest to him and constituents.

The money would help deal with the problem of lead-based paint in homes. Among other things, it would provide for emergency relocations of families in which a child has an elevated blood lead level.
