Politico reports that Home Depot kingpin Ken Langone intends this afternoon to try to soften Gov. Chris Christie on the subject of running for president at a huddle-up in Manhattan.

“In terms of a stylistic consistency, Langone was a major supporter of Rudy Giuliani in the 2008 presidential election. It’s not clear that this latest effort will be more effective than past pitches, but as Mike notes, Christie is not closing the door, and could find the political sands shifting beneath him in the next two years back home.”

Reporter Mike Allen wrote that uncommitted Republican bigwigs were on the invites to see Christie this afternoon “to try to convince him to change his mind and run for president,” said one top Republican who was invited.
