The proposals being bandied about Congress to aid the financially foundering Postal Service widely include the ending of Saturday mail delivery (as well as closing “unprofitable” post offices–not ours, we hope!–and, in the case of Rep. Darrell Issa, allowing the Postal Service to default on its obligations before a major restructuring). Weekends just got a lot longer for freelancers waiting on checks and the homebound or lazy who subscribe to many print magazines–and the lines at the 42nd Street Post Office near our office on a Friday (we may have experienced them as recently as this morning!) already seem longer.
