Singer to Dems: open your hearts and reinstate the death penalty

With mention of a Hamas bombing that nearly took his daughter’s life, state Sen. Robert Singer (R-30), of Lakewood, interrupted the veto override proceedings today to ask the Senate to re-instate the death penalty.

“You’ve asked people to be realistic and fair and open their hearts up,” he said to his colleagues across the aisle, including state Sen. Ray Lesniak (D-20), the legislative driver of killing the death penalty in New Jersey.

“Open your hearts to the families and the children (of this state and) re-instate the death penalty, for killing a police officer in our state, (for committing) terrorist (acts) in our state, for killing children (in our state).”

The motion was tabled, 18-15, and the chamber returned to business.
