Brooklyn Councilman David Greenfield fired a long-time staffer yesterday, who, in return, emailed colleagues saying she was “relieved” to be let go, because “I was no longer able to support David’s agenda, nor willing to tolerate his growing ego.”
“I staffed him at nearly every event imaginable,” Stefanie Fedak wrote in an email sent to friends last night, and forwarded to me by a couple of readers. “Yet, this morning, he decided that there was no longer a place for me in his office and he terminated my employment. I was not given an explanation beyond ‘this is no longer working out.'”
Fedak went on to say “I wouldn’t vote for David again, let alone work for him.”
In a brief email correspondence, Fedak confirmed she wrote the email but declined to discuss it further.

As some of you are already aware, today was my last day at the City Council. For the past year and a half, I have worked tirelessly for David — ensuring his election to office not once, but twice last year, and building his Council offices from the ground up. I managed David’s discretionary and capital budgets, I handled all of this press (as you probably know, the man has never met a camera he didn’t like) and I staffed him at nearly every event imaginable. Yet, this morning, he decided that there was no longer a place for me in his office and he terminated my employment. I was not given an explanation beyond “this is no longer working out.” While I, and many others, know that this was a poor, hastily-made decision on David’s part, I am immensely relieved. For several months, I have felt that I was no longer able to support David’s agenda, nor willing to tolerate his growing ego.
I am certain that some of you will hear speculation or untruths about why my employment was terminated, and I would be happy to clarify the circumstances for any of you in person or by phone. In the simplest terms, this was the result of a deep and unresolvable personality conflict — I wouldn’t vote for David again, let alone work for him.
So what’s next? I am headed to Dallas, TX where I will eat meals cooked by a gourmet chef (aka my patient and loving boyfriend, Stan, who is actually a chef), write a book, return to law practice and hope that Governor Rick Perry is elected President so that he can be your problem, too.
Thanks to all of you who have been so kind and supportive over the past year and a half. Particularly, my exceptional parents, the Barbie Dream House (yes, inside jokes) and my pals in the Council who were always more than ready to share war stories over beers. I will miss you all.
