The daughter of former Bergen County Republican Organization Chairman John Schepisi, Rivervale attorney Holly Schepisi this week continued to consolidate support to succeed her friend, Assemblywoman Charlotte Vandervalk in District 39.
Vandervalk announced last week that she would not be pursuing re-election this year.
“I’m very flattered and honored,” Schepisi said of the backing of key leaders, including Bergen County Republican Organization Chairman Bob Yudin, state Sen. Gerald Cardinale (R-39), and Vandervalk.
“They know my qualifications,” added the borough attorney. “I’m very committed to following Charlotte’s vision.”
Today, Bergen County Freeholder Rob Hermansen formally withdrew his candidacy to succeed Vandervalk and declared his support for Schepisi in the largely Republican district. That leaves Schepisi, Washington Township Councilman Fred Goetz, Emerson Borough Attorney Scott Mooney and Schepsi vying for the seat at a scheduled Sept. 12th convention.
Although she has key support, Schepisis said she refuses to take the race for granted. While being interviewed by PolitickerNJ.com, she said she was picking up flyers to give to county committee members.
“I am campaigning,” she said. “I want to hear what issues are important to them.”
It’s not new terrain for the candidate. She grew up in politics with her father.
“When I was in my teens and early 20s I attended every fundraiser and political event I could,” Schepisi told PolitickerNJ.com.
