Starting today, Social Security field offices are closing 30 minutes earlier in order to stave off a nearly $1 billion budget shortfall.
So if you hope to ever stop by a Social Security office after 4:30 in the afternoon again, keep those Tea Partiers out of Congress, says David Weprin, the Democratic nominee to replace Anthony Weiner in the House of Representatives.
“Instead of asking millionaires or Big Oil to pay their fair share, Congress caved to the Tea Party and cut Social Security services,” Weprin said in a statement. “If you ask me, those priorities are irresponsible. I will fight to protect Social Security and Medicare and ask those who can afford it to help chip in to reduce the deficit, not cut Social Security.”
Weprin is locked in a tight race against Republican Bob Turner, who has made budget cuts central to his campaign.
