Workmen’s comp, other bills win Senate OK

The Senate approved several bills on third reading today:

S2826: Passed 38-1, this revises the definition of employer regarding workers compensation issues, and exempts certain S corporations from the requirements of that law.

The bill provides that an S corporation is not subject to the law if only one person who performs services for the corporation and that person is the only shareholder.

S2707, passed 38-0. This bill authorizes an attending advanced practice nurse (APN) to determine and certify the cause of death of the nurse’s patient when no attending, covering, or resident physician is available to do so, and to execute the death certification.

S2543, passed 35-1, this bill would require an “alternative residential facility” to have a bedbug maintenance plan in place with a licensed exterminator. The bill would also require the facility to develop an administrative policy for a response in the event bedbugs are present in the facility.

S2239, passed 22-15,this bill establishes the New Jersey Health Care Reform Implementation Council.

The bill provides for a 13-member panel to plan for and coordinate the implementation of policies for the consideration of state agencies, policymakers, health care providers, and third party payers. Workmen’s comp, other bills win Senate OK
