Dems to choose Horgan in LD11

Monmouth County Democrats will nominate Red Bank Councilwoman Kathy Horgan tonight for State Assembly in the 11th District, sources tell PolitickerNJ.

Horgan will run with businessman Vin Gopal of Long Branch for Assembly and former prosecutor Ray Santiago of Freehold Township for State Senate. Horgan, who was elected to her 2nd term on the borough council last November, works for a nonprofit organization which is dedicated to AIDS research.

Horgan will replace Asbury Park restaurateur Marilyn Schlossbach, who stepped down last week when her restaurant was damaged in Hurricane Irene.

LD 11 is currently represented by Republican Sen. Jennifer Beck and Republican Assemblywomen Mary Pat Angelini and Caroline Casagrande, who are all running for re-election.  Former Democratic Assemblyman Dan Jacobson is also running for Assembly as an Independent.

The new district encompasses Asbury Park, Neptune, and Freehold Borough and Democrats feel they have a shot to knock off the GOP incumbents, however.
