Megan McCarthy has been named news editor of The New York Observer, editor Elizabeth Spiers announced today.
“Megan has a great eye for a story and I look forward to seeing her talents contribute to making an Observer that’s faster and more agile,” Ms. Spiers said.
Prior to joining The Observer, Ms. McCarthy was the first dedicated human editor at Techmeme, the algorithm-based technology-focused news aggregator. In March, 2010 she became the founding editor of Mediagazer, a Techmeme spinoff dedicated to aggregating the top media industry news of the day.
Previously she covered Silicon Valley startups for Wired.com and the Gawker Media blog Valleywag.
