New York Group’s Controversial Art Project in Detroit Will Come Down Soon

The Detroit News reassured local residents early this morning that an installation of 200 Tibetan peace flags on an abandoned building at the intersection of Chene Street and Canfield in Detroitwill be taken down by the end of the week. In a video message on their blog, posted before the September 18 installation, the duo behind Artefacting had this to say about the project:

“It’s a project, which we’re asking you for your help with, you know, to cover this house, a house of tragic history into something of positivity and even inspiration.”

Local residents were not pleased, vocing concern that the piece was not only insulting (the duo makes no mention of what the specifics of that “tragic history” really are), but also an eyesore.
