We weren’t sure whether Ricky Gervais would make it through customs after his much bemoaned stint as host of the Golden Globes last winter, and his videotaped message at the Emmy’s seemed to confirm our suspicions.
It doesn’t seem like Mr. Gervais has any plans of avoiding America, however, as City records show that the actor and his longtime girlfriend Jane Fallon have bought a place at The Barbizon.
This isn’t Mr. Gervais’ first foray in the building though, having purchased unit 9B in 2008, paying $1.66 million for the apartment. Apparently he cashed that check from the Golden Globes, however: he more than doubled his investment in the new place, paying $3.75 million for a 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath on the twelfth floor. It doesn’t appear that the initial apartment is on the market, making us wonder if he plans to buy all three floors in between, perhaps turning it into a comedy club where cutting British humor is better appreciated.
According to a listing from Corcoran agents Deanna Kory and Meghan Kelly, Mr. Gervais and Ms. Fallon will have a pretty nice setup in their new 1,794-square-foot place. The corner apartment was recently renovated, the listing notes, and includes “stunning open city views throughout… in addition to two terraces, a washer/dryer and a private entrance to the Equinox gym with pool and spa.” So Mr. Gervais can work on his tan, clean his clothes and tone his muscles all in the privacy of his own home.
The sellers are Patrick and Ita Chesser, who listed County Limerick, Ireland as their current address when they bought the apartment back in 2007.
