This great comedy series was too hot (and too dark) for the BBC

Snuff Box—a BBC show that starred Mighty Boosh graduates Matt Berry and Rich Fulcher—ran for just one season, in 2006. Now this foul-mouthed, fondly remembered, too-dark-for-television comedy series is finally coming out on American DVD. (Available October 11.)

Berry and Fulcher play executioners who pass much of their time at a fancy gentlemen’s club that caters to the profession. But as in the The Mighty Boosh, the show’s setting is really the taking-off point for a series of inspired riffs, semi-improvised sketches (many of them surreal), and musical numbers. There are six episodes in all (the DVD includes the usual extras), and the musical numbers are especially good.
