We give this out-of-the-blue British B-movie a solid A

Attack the Block came and went rather quietly after making its theatrical debut last spring. But the British sleeper, newly out on DVD, is not to be missed.

Like District 9, the film is social satire in the guise of an alien-invasion movie. It, too, has some sharp points to make; it, too, is very funny. But it’s also freewheeling, in ways that District 9 wasn’t (it may not be a coincidence that Attack the Block was produced by the team that brought us the excellent Shaun of the Dead). You don’t have to be a science-fiction fan to like the film, but if you are, you’re bound to totally love it.
