Bordertown: Laredo is a real-time report from one of the most dangerous fronts in America’s war on drugs.
The ten-part series, which premieres on A&E this Thursday at 10 p.m. and was produced by Al Roker (yes, that Al Roker), who is quietly turning into something of a reality-show impresario, traces the fortunes of a mostly Latino narcotics unit on the U.S.-Mexican border. Laredo residents have already voiced their displeasure (the show doesn’t exactly paint their city in a flattering light). But Bordertown: Laredo is less sensational than other cop shows we’ve seen, and a lot more gripping. It’s a very welcome departure from Gene Simmons Family Jewels, Hoarders, and other A&E stalwarts.
