Legislative / Communications Associate (Princeton, New Jersey) 


A top lobbying and public affairs firm in New Jersey is in need of an entry-level, full-time associate to provide legislative support/research to the firm and its clients and provide assistance to company personnel in preparing speeches, talking points, press releases, op-eds, testimony and other communications material for the firm’s clients.  The ideal candidate has strong communication and interpersonal skills, excellent writing ability, superior research skills, time-management and team-working skills. The firm is looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented individual, with an interest in the political and governmental processes and a desire to learn new things. 


Job Description: 

§  Track New Jersey legislation, prepare legislative tracking reports and notify clients about pertinent legislation; 

§  Monitor and attend Legislative hearings and produce summaries based on relevant content to clients;

§  Write memoranda to legislators, policy makers and clients;

§  Write content for the firm’s bi-monthly on-line newsletter;

§  Draft talking points, speeches, press releases, op-eds, letters to the editor, and other written communications;

§  Update and maintain the firm’s Website and the firm’s social media presence ;

§  Identify relevant news, press releases and other political information of interest to the firm and its clients from a variety of media sources.



Bachelor’s degree in political science, a social science, communications, English or an equivalent combination of education and experience in legislative matters and or experience in a lobbying, public relations or in a government agency/department; extensive computing skills in the Windows environment, particularly with database applications (preferably Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); excellent communication skills, both oral and written; attention to detail; strong organizational skills; excellent interpersonal skills; and the ability to work both as part of a team and individually while meeting deadlines in a multi-tasking environment.
