EDISON – New Jersey pays far higher costs for police, fire and other government services, compared to four neighboring states, according to a Ball University study released Monday by the New Jersey Association of Realtors.
According to the study, the per capita expenditures by local governments in New Jersey with less than 1 million people per county are $719 higher than in Pennsylvania and $750 higher than in Connecticut.
Police costs per-capita are between $41 and $96 lower in other states, the study reported.
In Delaware and Pennsylvania, the per-capita costs of fire services are $68 and $36 lower, respectively, than in New Jersey.
On parks and recreations, the per-capita costs in Delaware and New York are lower by $39 and $19, respectively, than in other states.
Sewage costs were also lower on a per-person basis, with the costs being $36 lower in New York and $118 lower in Delaware.
