Gubernatorial girlfriend Sandra Lee cemented her status as a true domestic diva with her Halloween specials that premiered on the Food Network yesterday. “Sandra Lee’s Halloween Wonderland” featured over ten elaborate costume wardrobe and “magic mushrooms.”
Ms. Lee lived every drag queen’s deepest fantasy during her special dressing as several of history’s greatest divas during the special. Her costumes included Cher, Marie Antoinette, Marilyn Monroe, Barbra Streisand, Audrey Hepburn, Liza Minelli, Madonna, Queen Elizabeth, Queen Guinevere, Lucille Ball, Robin Hood, Mrs. Santa Claus, a Ghost pirate princess combination thing, Alice in Wonderland and a Johnny Depp-inspired “Mad Hatter.”
Gawker has an excellent four minute highlight reel of Ms. Lee’s Halloween revelry.
In an interview with US Weekly, Ms. Lee said the “Mad Hatter” getup took over four hours to put on. Her Marie Antionette outfit was the most painful because they couldn’t find a tight enough corset.
“We had to use duct tape, which by the way, was a huge mistake because when you take duct tape off your back, it takes the skin with it!” Ms. Lee said.
Ms. Lee discussed her tendency to overdo it on the holidays in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar earlier this month in which she described decorating the house she shares with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo with seven different Christmas trees last year. In that same interview, which Ms. Lee conducted right after taping her Halloween special, she also showed that one doesn’t just become a diva overnight.
“My whole life, I wanted to be Cher,” Ms. Lee said.
Now Ms. Lee is living the dream.
