Last month, Robert Mackey, editor of The Lede blog at The New York Times, wrote that “after most of a decade at The New York Times, and nearly three years and more than 1,360 posts as The Lede’s editor, I am leaving to join The Guardian, where I will be a reporter and blogger.” Today, not even a month later, his editor at the Times, Jim Roberts, announced that the new lead blogger of The Lede would be… Robert Mackey.
We asked the Guardian what happened. “We’re hiring a lot at the moment and sadly there will always be times when things just don’t work out” wrote spokeswoman Jo Murray in an e-mail. “He decided it wasn’t for him and of course we wish him well.”
