Vineland Developmental Center site as public school OK’d

TRENTON – The Statehouse Commission took action today on several applications, including developmental centers.

* The Commission approved a request by the state Department of Transportation to sell a 3,000-square-foot parcel on Route 2 in Ramsey Borough in Bergen County to the adjoining property owner, Milthom Realty, for a recommended price of $42,000.

* The Commission approved a Treasury request to lease property at Vineland Developmental Center to the Vineland Board of Education for a public school.

The lease would be for one year. A previous proposal that included three one-year renewal options was removed. The base rent would be $260,000, plus $122,000 for utilities.

The Commission reported this is a good re-use of property at the Center’s west campus that is being closed.

The reason the renewal options were excluded is that there is an expectation that the site may be purchased outright at some point, commission members said.

There was concern about capping the utilities at $122,000, but should they exceed that, the deal can be reviewed after the year is up, commission members said.

* The panel OK’d a Treasury request to lease water tower space at Hunterdon Developmental Center to Verizon wireless for cellular antennae.

The lease would be for five years, with the first year set at $38,000, and annual increases in rent of 3.5 percent. Vineland Developmental Center site as public school OK’d
