$100M bond issue bill for storm-wracked areas advances

TRENTON –  A bill to help flood-ravaged parts of New Jersey rebuild cleared the Assembly Environment and Solid Waste Committee today. It cleared along party lines with Democrats in favor.

This bill, A4269, sponsored by  Connie Wagner, (D-38), Paramus,  authorizes $100 million in state bonds to provide $50 million in grants to counties and $50 million in grants to municipalities for transportation  and water infrastructure projects required due to an emergency caused by Hurricane Irene or other weather-related problems during August and September.

The Commissioners of Transportation and Environmental Protection will establish procedures for the review and approval of such projects. Each commissioner will prepare a priority list of eligible projects, and the bond funds are to be appropriated by the Legislature only in accordance with those priority lists.
