Essex County Democratic Chairman Phillip Thigpen announced that six members of the Essex County Assembly delegation support Asembly Speaker Sheila Oliver (D-34) to continue in her leadership role.
Those members are Assembly members L. Grace Spencer, Albert Coutinho, Ralph Caputo, Cleopatra Tucker, Thomas Giblin and Oliver.
“I am honored that our delegation is supporting Sheila Oliver for Speaker, and I want to let the legislators know that every action will be met by a reaction in Essex County,” said Thigpen last night at Mayfair Farms. “Essex County will have a resounding victory on Tuesday, November 8th followed by the re-election of Sheila Oliver as Speaker.”
“Essex County is the highest performing Democratic County in the State of New Jersey,” Oliver said. “We outperform the rest of the state in every election. Any Democrat who wants to run for statewide office has to come through Essex County.”
The only Assemby members of the Essex delegation who didn’t endorse Oliver were Assembly members John McKeon and Mila Jasey.
Assemblyman Ralph Caputo told PolitickerNJ.com this morning he too does not support Oliver right now, and by the end of the day, Thigpen had revised his count to five.
