An LD 38 Democratic TV attack ad that landed Wednesday infuriated building and trades members who stand poised to pull their support from state Sen. Bob Gordon, (D-38), Fair Lawn, unless Gordon kills the ad.
The spot, which ran half a dozen times today in this battleground district, accuses GOP challenger John Driscoll of supporting a plan to dump $400 million of taxpayer dollars into the “rathole” of Xanadu, a stalled mall and entertainment complex in Bergen County.
After convening a building and trades meeting in Paramus earlier this evening, union leadership gave Democrats an ultimatum: pull the ad or else.
A well-heeled Bergen source said that message was unanimous from all of the trades, who are willing to walk away from the Democrats into the waiting arms of the opposition.
Sources told PolitickerNJ.com that continuation of the ad amounts to “biting the hand that feeds” the Democrats, who have absorbed union dollars from North Jersey building and tradesmen whose ranks are 40% unemployed.
