Last month we wrote about how Democrats were attacking local GOP Congressman Bob Turner and Michael Grimm for allowing an energy company affiliated with Iran to conduct mining operations in Arizona.
Today Queens Assemblyman Rory Lancman piled on, focusing his ire on Mr. Turner
“How Congressman Turner could have voted to fatten the bottom line of a mining company in cahoots with Iran is beyond me, and doing so right before a long-awaited U.N. agency report on Iran’s secret nuclear weapons program is completely unfathomable,” Assemblyman Lancman said. “Congress should follow our lead in New York and make it even more difficult – not less – for Iran’s energy sector to thrive.”
In New York, Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver is pushing a bill that would prohibit companies that do business with Iran from doing business with the state.
Mr. Lancman meanwhile is leaving little doubt that he intends to take on Mr. Turner in a race. Yesterday, he told Capital that he is thinking very hard about the race if there is a seat to run for.
“Iran’s energy sector is at the heart of its nuclear weapons program, and Congress can’t keep undermining our efforts by allowing Iran to evade sanctions aimed at undermining its development of a nuclear arsenal,” said Assemblyman Lancman.
