Good heavens! It’s already Monday and you haven’t put on an evening gown this week! Fortunately, you don’t have to wait any longer to slip into your black-tie best. Tonight, you’ll attend the Chabad’s Children of Chernobyl gala, and having shown off your knowledge of Soviet history on Friday, you’re completely prepared. And who knew nuclear fallout could draw such a crowd? (We usually head in the opposite direction.) Emceed by John Voight and chaired by Steven Spielberg, the evening will raise funds to support children affected by the Chernobyl disaster. Both Dakota and Elle Fanning will receive awards for their work with the organization. And we won’t pass up the opportunity to ask the elder Ms. Fanning about that giant phallic perfume bottle between her thighs in the latest Marc Jacobs ad campaign. (Or maybe we will.) Ironic that the actress should receive an award for her dedication to a children’s cause while simultaneously being embroiled in a controversy about the media’s sexualization of children? Oh, don’t be so cynical!
Chabad’s Children of Chernobyl “Children at Heart” gala, Chelsea Piers: Pier 60, 5:00 p.m. Tickets, from $900, available at https://www.cah.net/2011/reserve.asp.
