A pediatrician named Dr. Victor Zuckerman held a press conference today to support his ex-girlfriend, Sharon Bialek’s, claim she was groped by Herman Cain. Ms. Bialek had a press conference of her own last week to tell the world her story of being hit on by Mr. Cain after she asked him for career advice in 1997. Dr. Zuckerman was dating Ms. Bialek at the time of her alleged run in with Mr. Cain.
In his press conference today, Dr. Zuckerman said Ms. Bialek returned “upset” after meeting Mr. Cain.
“She said Mr. Cain had touched her in an inappropriate manner,” Dr. Zuckerman said.
“I am emphasize that I am not making a political statement. I am speaking as a private citizen,” Dr. Zuckerberg said. “I hope this information … will aid the public in evaluating the statements previously made by Mr. Cain and Ms. Bialek.”
Mr. Cain has previously denied he even knows who Ms. Bialek is. His wife, Gloria, has also spoken out in support of her husband.
Ms. Bialek and Dr. Zuckerman were both accompanied by attorney Gloria Allred at their respective press conferences. Mr. Cain’s campaign initially responded to the allegations by releasing statements questioning the motives of both Ms. Bialek and Ms. Allred.
“The fact is that Ms. Bialek has had a long and troubled history, from the courts to personal finances,” one of the statements said. “Which may help explain why she has come forward 14 years after an alleged incident with Mr. Cain, powered by celebrity attorney and long term Democrat donor Gloria Allred.”
Dr. Zuckerman tried to head off any possible questions about his motives at the press conference. He said he is a Republican who has never been sued for malpractice. Though Dr. Zuckerman admitted to having declared bankruptcy he said his payments have all been made on time.
Mr. Cain has dropped in the polls in the week since Ms. Bialek came forward, but he claims not to be worried about the scandal affecting his campaign. As of this writing, Mr. Cain’s staff hasn’t responded to the Observer’s request for a response to Dr. Zuckerman’s statements.
