Velvet Revolution

While the rag-tag assemblage of activist-y hipsters composing #Occupy may not topple any governments, you’ve got that revolutionary feeling in your bones. Naturally you prefer vodka tonics to the barely potable beverages they’re sipping down in Zuccotti Park. And who could blame you? You don’t want a regime change, you’re just looking for some elementary sedition, preferably induced by a strong drink, or five (Fix mommy another martini!). Well, you’re in luck! Dust off your world history textbook because tonight you’ll be celebrating the Velvet Revolution with your Eastern European (ex)comrades at LAVO. Jointly organized by the Consulates General of Slovakia and the Czech Republic, you’ll fête the fall of communism in style. Channel your vague antioppression angst toward the hammer and sickle of yore, and having accomplished as much, count your lucky stars that you were born in a free country. Praise the Lord, and pass the ammunition.

Velvet Revolution Party, LAVO, 39 East 58th Street, 7-11 p.m. Open to the public.
