Wagner pledges bill to address tax-assessor abuses

TRENTON –  Assemblywoman Connie Wagner, (D-38), Paramus – reacting to a Comptroller’s report issued today that said a former Edgewater tax assessor inappropriately reduced tax assessments – said she plans to introduce legislation to correct such problems.

“This is an outrage and something that cannot be allowed to repeat itself,” she said in a release in which she said she would sponsor a bill that would have tax assessors file annual reports listing all assessments that have been reduced by 20 percent or more.

“I also agree that the state Division of Taxation needs to find a way to identify properties owned by a single entity that are assessed less than similar properties,” she said. “Favoritism cannot be allowed.’’
