Wednesday: A Line of Beauty

As a seasoned city dweller with au courant sensibilities, you’ve developed a particular love for the High Line. Even as December approaches, you relish walking the reclaimed railway on brisk afternoons. The gritty juxtaposition of railroad tracks and native foliage tickles your poetic fancies, as you nurture the illusion that nature has prevailed over man’s industrial debasement. (Sure, each sapling was trucked in and planted in predesignated plots by the High Line’s staff, but the fantasy is comforting nonetheless.) Tonight, you have the opportunity to thank those responsible for the mirage you so love to meander. Joshua David and Robert Hammond, the founders of Friends of the High Line, will be at Coach’s flagship store tonight signing copies of their book High Line: The Inside Story of New York City’s Park in the Sky. The urban revivalist duo co-founded Friends of the High Line, the organization that successfully lobbied the city to restore the defunct train track you now use as a personal Midtown to Mepa catwalk. This evening you’ll shop for a new midmarket purse and express due gratitude for the blossoming greenway, a consummate New York combination.
Coach, 595 Madison Avenue, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Open to the public.
