TRENTON – Gov. Chris Christie’s office responded this afternoon to the findings of the State Commission of Investigation into the presence of abuse and criminality in the solid waste industry in New Jersey.
“We are still reviewing the findings of the SCI report and will consider its recommendations,” the governor’s spokesman, Michael Drewniak, said.
“The report does make clear, however, that the state agencies involved worked in real-time with the SCI during its inquiry and took immediate steps to address specific issues.
“Nonetheless, the Governor is confident in his administration’s ability to effectively manage available resources to properly regulate the solid waste and recycling industries and enforce criminal laws.”
The governor’s office pointed to sections of the SCI report that indicate state personnel cooperated fully with the Commission investigators and took action when alerted to problems.
“Based upon referrals by the Commission,’’ the report states, “steps have been taken to scrutinize and, where appropriate, to remove tainted individuals from participation in the solid waste industry.’’
